For the first time in decades, I live in a new zip code.  As I write this, I can’t remember what it is.

It isn’t just a new zip code.  By joining the independent living section of a continuing care retirement community, I have signed up for a completely different way of life.

And now, one week into it, I feel a bit like a freshman in college.  (Except for a few other refugees from our condemned building who live here, everyone is a stranger.) As expected, there are way more women than men.  But people are welcoming, and for that I am grateful.  This is my new permanent home because I have decided that moving again will not be an option

So let the fun begin!

You really are a woman of action!
Please fill us in on the details of your new life – when you get time.
I like the fact that your first impressions are of friendliness.
I wonder if – a few weeks in – you’ll experience a great feeling of relief now that the uncertainty of your day to day existence is sorted.
I wish you the most heartfelt good luck x

New home, new zip code? 20 or more years ago in Lexington, MA, without moving, we got peremptorily assigned a new zip code AND a new telephone exchange prefix! We felt rather at sea for a while.
Good luck in your new home. You are facing this huge disruption, not of your making, with courage and good spirits.

Best wishes for a cozy (but also stimulating) settling in.
